We are pleased that the testing of the bore hole went well, there is a large amount of good quality drinking water and we hope to be able to use the tractor and trailer to collect it for the centre and hospital while we investigate the possibility of putting a pipeline up the hill.
The children have returned from their holidays and are all working hard for the end of year exams which they have to pass before they can move up to the next class. There are 4 boy and 2 girls in the top class at primary school so will be moving to secondary school at the beginning of the next school year in January. If any of them are in the top 10 of the class we will allow them to sit the entrance exam for Hegongo secondary school, the private school run by the church, and if they pass we find a sponsor to pay for them as the teaching is much better and the classes are smaller than in the local secondary school.
The main rains this year were better than they have been for the last few years so the Centre has been able to use the harvested water for most of the year which was useful as the main supplying the village has been damaged and turned off until it could be repaired. We hope that when all the harvest is gathered it will be better than last year. So far they have only harvested the corn and yeald was poor but only a small area was planted because of starting crop rotation and the other divided areas have still to harvest pigeon peas and cassava. If the short rains come at the end of the month the Centre can plant again and harvest before the rains in March/April.
Our thanks to Polio Children who are funding the building of 2 new dormitories for 10 boys and 10 girls. The foundations have been started and we hope to have them completed in January so the new children can start school at the beginning of the school year.
